Let me introduce myself.
I am Jon
Maynard FRICS, a leading Chartered Land Surveyor who has
recognised an increasing need amongst property owners in
England and Wales for help with problems relating to
their boundaries. My land surveying practice specifically
and exclusively addresses this need.
Boundaries
can be a very emotive issue for property owners. The
suggestions on this web site are intended to help
property owners to calmly navigate the minefield that is
a boundary dispute, either on their own or with the
assistance of the appropriate professional.

Education
After taking a Geography degree at the University of
Reading in 1970, I went on in 1971 to take a postgraduate
certificate in Land Surveying at the (now Royal) School
of Military Survey at Hermitage, near Newbury, Berks,
where I topped the class in the Land Law examination.
Between 1989 and 1993 I studied at evening class for the
British Computer Society Examination.
Previous experience
From 1971 to 1982, I worked for the Directorate of
Overseas Surveys on mapping projects in Botswana,
Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Vanuatu and Yemen, and had the
opportunity to do some boundary demarcation surveys in
both Kenya and Vanuatu (S. Pcific).
From 1983 to 1999, I worked for Ordnance
Survey® at their Southampton headquarters. I
have held a number of posts relating to the production
and marketing of their detailed, large scales maps. In
1988/89 I was in charge of the production of the
customised Ordnance Survey maps used by HM Land Registry.
I was instrumental in the development and launch of
Superplan Data® in 1996, and more recently
handled the negotiations that put Ordnance Survey mapping
into innovative products such as Microsoft®
MapPoint TM and Sony ® StreetMate
TM
.
Other interests
Since 1989 I have played a very active role
in the affairs of the
Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
I was a member of
the RICS General Council from 1994-1999.
I was President of
the Land and Hydrographic Surveys Division for 1997/98,
and was responsible for changing the Division's name to
the Geomatics Division.
In March 2000 I
became a member of the RICS Boundaries and Party Walls
Practice Panel, and in January 2003 became its chairman.
